With an interactive web page you execute the same calculations and evaluations as with a PC program. Consequently the user interfaces of the web page and of the corresponding AlPrg module are nearly the same. The next figure compares the Aluminum Production Web Page with the corresponding page of AlPrg.
User Interfaces of an Interactive Web Page and of the Corresponding AlPrg Module.
These input and output fields of the Aluminum Production Web Page and of the corresponing AlPrg module are the same i.e. they match each other.
A web page however does not recognize if you click once or several times with the mouse pointer into an input field. Therefore AlWeb uses small buttons to activate or inactivatean an input field: means that the input field is activated for input and correspondingly shows an output field. When you click on this button you toggle between input and output of this field.
Working with interactive web pages (AlWeb) provide the following advantages compared to using a PC program (AlPrg):
you must not download program files or purchase a CD containing them,
you must not worry to install properly these files on your PC,
the interactive web pages contain always the newest software version i. e. no update is necessary,
for your personal AlPrg version however you must get and install the new updated version,
and finally you have access from everywhere to these web pages where you can contact the internet.
AlWeb starts an interactive web page with default values. When you have executed your calculations in the past there was no way to save the input parameters and the results. With the new version of AlWeb you may store these data in a database on the AlWeb server. AlWeb distinguishes your data by your user name i.e. the next time you visit the web page you may recall the data and values that you have saved on the database. When you log in into AlWeb with your user name and password the Aluminum Production web page, for instance, contains three additional buttons:
Aluminum Production Web Page for a Logged In User.
After you have logged in with your user name and password the interactive web pages show three additional buttons. You click on these buttons to save i. e. download values and data of the web page to the AlWeb database, to upload data from the data base into the AlWeb system and to recall the default values for this webpage.
You use these buttons for the following purpose:
when clicking on this button you upload data and values from the AlWeb database into the web page.
you recall the default values into the web page.
clicking on this button you save (download) the values and data i.e. the state of the web page into the AlWeb database.
You may also save your input data and calculation results in an XML-file on the hard disk of your local computer. Later during another session with AlWeb you may upload the data of the saved XMl-file into the AlWeb system. You proceed in the following way:
when clicking on the Download to XML-File button your browser opens the conventional File Download window:
File Download Window.
With this conventional File Download window of your browser you save (or open) the AlWeb XML-file on the hard disk of your PC.
and when clicking on the Upload from XML-File button the AlWeb page shows an upload input field:
