On Aluminum Production Page you calculate the amount of aluminum produced by electrolysis. The input values are: number of pots (300), time period (1 year), current intensity (135 kA) and current efficiency (95 %). AlPrg uses Equ. 8 of the Mass Balance chapter to calculate the aluminum production (113·103 t) .
AlPrg calculates 113·103 t of aluminum (the input field is desactivated because it contains the output value) produced by 300 pots, in the time period of one year, with a current intensity of 135 kA and a current efficiency of 95 %. You change the values in the activated input fields with the keyboard or with the mouse wheel.
You find on this page two combo boxes that handle the time period units and the metal quality, production factor. When you click on the button of the Time Period Units Combo Box you select in a drop down menu the units of the time period: minutes, hours, days, months and years.
AlPrg assumes that the pots produces 100 % pure aluminum i.e.
the program calculates with the theoretical production factor. In this case the
current efficiency takes care of eventual impurities in the pot metal.
You may however use your own impurity value or production factor. After pressing
the button on the combo box you select the input type: metal quality or
production factor. Afterwards you enter your value with the keyboard or mouse
wheel.
You may want to calculate the current efficiency the other parameters (Number of
Pots, Time Period Current Intensity and the Aluminum Production) being the
input. You click twice with the mouse pointer into the input field of the
current efficiency. The field becomes inactivated i.e. it contains the result of
the calculation.
In the same way you click on the current intensity input field if you want to
determine this value.
If you calculate the time period the result normally is not an entire number. AlPrg shows the time period in years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes corresponding to the real time period value.

Determination of Time Period. The time period is calculated with the Number of Pots, Current Intensity, Current Efficiency and Aluminum Production as input. |
The same happens if you calculate the number of pots, AlPrg shows the entire number (NPots = 305) and the real number (NPots = 305.04).
